Music(?) Music in the Key of EEG. I can but quote:
Perhaps at some point we could all listen to our brain automatically using ickle chip technology:
"A stressed-out brain makes static sounds. A mildly concerned brain produces a noise that sounds like breakfast cereal melting in milk. An interested brain sounds like a jumpy cat emitting a steady, low-level purr interspersed with a few high-pitched squeals ... Hook a whole bunch of brains up to a computer, capture and play the sounds they make, and you get, well, not quite music, but certainly some interesting noise ... That's exactly what happened at the Cyborg Echoes Deconcert in Toronto over the weekend."I wonder if a particularly musical brain is more harmonic? [via artsjournal]
Perhaps at some point we could all listen to our brain automatically using ickle chip technology:
"Controversial news about computer chips has been crossing the wires lately. Rather, controversial news about a specific, futuristic kind of chip: the “VeriChip,” a device that, in the world of microchips, is actually relatively lo-tech. The chip, sealed in a tiny glass capsule about the size of a grain of rice, simply carries a number that corresponds to a database of information. What makes it futuristic is its intended use. "The perverse applications of this technology seem to be endless -- tracking citizens being the scariest. But then, isn't this exactly what we do with some wildlife?
Film "Gnomeo and Juliet". Animated feature based upon a certain play by Shakespeare. With Kate Winslet and Judi Dench doing voices. Why is it everybody loses their minds when there's a war on?
Film Dark review for a film I'll never see .... Some things are just wrong, OK?
"This is made worse by having pasty, white-bread (Devon) Gummersall, the nerdy blond kid from My So-Called Life, spout ghetto lines as if he's from the 'hood, frequently using the word "peep" as a verb meaning "to speak." Gummersall's "bust a cap" persona is as affected as any I've seen since Anthony Michael Hall played a football hero in Johnny Be Good. What were you think of Krakow. "Oh you know, so in case, you know, erm...."
Liverpool Life The differences between last week in the city centre and tonight were pretty stark. No protests. Nothing to stop the steady flow of traffic. Home by bus in twenty minutes. My feeling is that there has been a gradual acceptance that the war is here, it won't end until the final bullet and protesting won't help a jot. So here we all are in a holding pattern riding things out. Can anyone remember when there wasn't news that didn't include tanks and bombs?
Metafilter suddenly has Google text ads based upon thread content ... pity it's a big white box, although I'm sure that'll get sorted out ...
Blog! This must be a first. 'The Guardian' reproduced a chunk of Salam Pax's weblog today. What is the position on whether permissions were needed?
Quiz! Time for this quarter's excrutatingly difficult competition, and because I'm in an egotistical mood, it's all about this weblog.
(1) Who was the subject of the first post? Why does it demonstrate I know nothing about nothing?
(2) Which single post has gained the most hits via Google?
(4) Which film do I watch every Christmas?
(5) What's my job?
(6) What is the ringer tune on my mobile phone?
(7) What are my dream alternative careers?
(8) Where did I commute to for a year?
(9) What do I amusingly say my religion is?
(10) How old am I?
The usual 'feeling listless soundtrack' is up for grabs ... closing date this time of the end of April ...
Art To get away from the war for a second ... I urge you to download the BBC Four screensaver, created in the style of their channel idents. Restful sounds play over floating lights, allowing you to create your own fantasy schedule: "Now on BBC 4, WWF Smackdown ...."
